HMS Zulu was a 4inch British Royal Navy Fleet Destroyer commissioned into service in September 1938.
Initially deployed to the Mediterranean, Zulu returned to home waters during 1941 and took part in the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck.
Refitted in June to July 1941 with high frequency direction finding (HF/DF or 'Huff-Duff'), two single 2 pounder guns mounted on the bridge wings, RADAR and the depth charge throwers were re-located.
Zulu returned to the Mediterranean where she attacked Italian convoys and later took part in the attack against the Italian base in Tobruk, (Libya).
On September 14, 1942, she was damaged by Italian coastal batteries on the Tobruk coast. She was then bombed by Italian aircraft, a bomb exploding in the boiler room. Most of her crew were taken off by RN destroyers and while under tow to Alexandria, she was again bombed by an enemy aircraft and sank.
The Tribal class was also built in Australia for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and in Canada for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).
